Apply for a Scholarship to Attend Global Black Pride 2022!
Scholarships are offered to Black people who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference due to financial reasons, especially from the Global South. Only Black LGBTQI+ people of any sexual orientation or gender identities, of African/Black ancestral origins and of varied intersectional national and ethnocultural groups across the African Diaspora and have lived experiences of being racialized as Black are eligible for these scholarships.
Global Black Pride also recognizes the colonization and enslavement of people of African and Indigenous descent globally. In the spirit of decolonization, we encourage First Nations/Indigenous/Aboriginal and Two-Spirited, Trans, gender-diverse, non-binary people, activists, storytellers, and elders to apply.
We particularly encourage intersectional applications from Black LGBTQI+ persons including, but not limited to, women, racial minorities, First Nations/Indigenous/Aboriginal people, persons with disabilities, Trans, gender-diverse, non-binary people, activists, elders, and persons of any sexual orientations or gender identities
A full scholarship will cover visa application, processing fees, and associated costs, a roundtrip flight to Toronto Canada, accommodation (not a shared room), a local travel pass, and daily allowance for incidentals – per diems.
The scholarship application must be submitted before 23:59 GMT on Friday 15th April 2022 . Selected scholars will be informed by the end of Thursday 21st April 2022, thus giving successful applicants time to work with Global Black Pride on securing a visa (if needed). Unsuccessful applicants will then have the chance to seek alternative funding and to register later as a paying participant.
Global Black Pride will take reasonable measures to ensure that successful scholars are able to attend the Human Rights Conference. However please note that any scholarship granted will always remain conditional due to several factors including but not limited to: the situation of the global Covid-19 pandemic, Global Black Pride securing funding for scholarships, the scholar being granted a visa to access Canada, the availability of a travel/flights within reasonable cost limits, the ability to get health travel insurance for the scholar, existing or future travel bans by governments, the reasonableness of existing or future vaccine, hygiene and quarantine restrictions. Accordingly, a scholarship may be revoked by Global Black Pride at any time.
